The IUPUI Regatta is a half-mile canoe race on the downtown canal in the heart of Indianapolis. This event, held annually in late September, was established in 2009 in lieu of a homecoming event for the campus. This long-standing campus tradition involves both IUPUI’s campus and the Indianapolis community, benefiting the Stefan S. Davis IUPUI Regatta Scholarship, an annual scholarship awarded to an IUPUI student of high academic integrity and merit.
The IUPUI Regatta event, hosted in Military Park and the downtown canal, adjacent to the IUPUI campus, will be held on the same weekend as IUPUI Family Weekend. In addition to the main canoe race down the canal, IUPUI students, families, and Indianapolis community members can expect:
- Food Trucks
- Carnival Games and Rides
- Dog Costume Contest
- Regatta Royalty Pageant
- Live DJ
- Tabling by IUPUI Student Organizations and Schools
The canoe race and festival will take place on Saturday, Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Regatta takes place in downtown Indianapolis on the canal. The race starts at the intersection of New York St. and Blackford St. The festival is located next to the canal in Military Park, and we will have food trucks, rides, sponsors, student organizations, and more festival fun!
Whether you are a paddler or a spectator, the event has entertainment for everyone! All of Regatta's most loved elements will return, including a festival with inflatables, games, the dog costume contest, stage entertainment, and performances by IUPUI's student groups, and more.
$150
Teams should be comprised of four people, and you can have up to two additional handlers/alternative paddlers on each team. Team captains must ensure you have the following information for each team member when signing your team up: full name, emergency contact number, IU email, and T-shirt size.
It is not an on-campus event, but it is an easy walk from the nearest parking garages and residence halls.
Yes. This will be an opportunity for you and your team to get used to the equipment and even take our canoes for a quick paddle. Practice day date: Saturday, Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the canal.
