We are pleased to have you join us for this signature campus tradition at IUPUI! On behalf of the Regatta Steering Committee, we thank you for your participation and enthusiasm! This year we are celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the event—RegattaX. We are celebrating 10 years of tradition with 10X the excitement! IUPUI is also celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year. Read on to find out why the 2018 IUPUI Regatta will be the BIGGEST and BEST one yet!
We are excited to introduce a new home for Regatta this year! The event will be located on the south end of the canal, with the race beginning at Blackford St., near the Indiana State Museum. All of your favorite Regatta festivities and more will be held in Military Park and IUPUI’s South Lawn behind the Herron School of Art. This new location is bringing this IUPUI tradition closer than ever before to the heart of both campus and downtown Indianapolis.
In honor of IUPUI’s 50th Anniversary, we are adding 50 teams to the field of competitors! The 200 teams will be comprised of students, faculty, staff, and alumni and divided amongst three divisions (male, female, and co-ed). As opposed to traditional heats, we are introducing a new and exciting continuous style of racing, with canoes embarking every one minute for the preliminary round. Final heats will crown the champions in our three divisions.
The Regatta offers entertainment for all, regardless of whether you are paddling in the race or not! We are celebrating RegattaX with 10 Days of Regatta, a week+ of events to get you excited for the big day on September 22. On event day, join us for the biggest festival in Regatta history, including live entertainment, food and marketplace vendors, and activities for all ages. We will be introducing new attractions, an Arts & Culture Fair, and an expanded Campus Commons that includes more student organizations.
For the fourth consecutive year, we are pleased to be awarding the Stefan S. Davis IUPUI Regatta Scholarship to 10 deserving students! The hard work and dedication from students, faculty, administrators, and alumni since 2009 has provided us with the opportunity to give back to students, and we look forward to doing this in the years to come. For the second year in a row, the Regatta Steering Committee is fundraising via the crowdfunding platform Fundly. To donate, visit iufoundation.fundly.com/paddling-for-scholarships-2018.
It takes a team of over 20 dedicated student leaders working together for 12 months to strategize and plan the IUPUI Regatta each year. We are excited to be advancing the goals of IUPUI’s Welcoming Campus Initiative, and this year’s event would not be possible without the support of the IUPUI Welcoming Campus Innovation Fund. The Regatta Steering Committee appreciates the support of units across campus to make the event a success. We invite each of you to bring your family and friends to the canal to enjoy all aspects of the event and recognize the hard work and dedication put into RegattaX.
